New Portfolio Site: Created with 4ormat
I’d like to share with you something I’ve been slowly updating and working on in the last while. My good friend Lukas and his friend Tyler have been developing 4ormat for the last year and while I’ve been lucky enough to play around it for a few months now, it’s now in BETA and ready for others to use as well! Here’s a quick video showing you just how easy it is to...

The National @ Massey Hall
I know we’re only halfway through the year but I think it’s safe to say I’ve seen and shot one of my favourite concerts for 2010. On Tuesday evening, I shot the first of two shows the National (along with the Antlers opening) put on in Toronto. I first saw them was a few years back at the Phoenix but they’ve seemed to matured and grown to have the great Massey Hall as...

Broken Bells @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre
The Morning Benders opened up for Broken Bells last Wednesday night at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Seconds after Broken Bells started their set, the front of the theatre and aisles were flooded by fans who rushed the stage to enjoy the James Mercer and Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) collaboration up close. Shot for AUX.

Zeus @ the Mod Club
After shooting behind the scenes for their music video the other week, I headed out to the Mod Club last Thursday night to see Zeus perform. They had Danielle Duval and Matt Murphy opening for them and it was a pleasure to see them live again. Last summer I covered their performances at Dakota’s Tavern so it was great to catch them since the release of their album Say Us. Shot for AUX.

Zeus - How Does It Feel
Last Tuesday, my friend Jeremy Bernatchez invited me out to Sterling Studio to do some behind the scenes photography on the set of Canadian indie rock band, Zeus’ new music video “How Does it Feel”. Having worked together before on their last video “Marching Through Your Head”, Vision Entertainment was back at it again putting the band (Rob Drake, Carlin Nicholson,...

The Gruesome Twosome Tour @ the Molson...
Last Friday I was presented with the opportunity to shoot possibly the most fun and challenging concert yet. Friends for years, Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie have finally teamed up to tour under the title “The Gruesome Twosome Tour”, in what some have called, “a match made in macabre heaven.” When it comes to shooting a show, the photographer is usually given the first...

Turin Brakes @ the Mod Club
Yesterday I was lucky enough to spend an evening with Turin Brakes. It’s been 5 years since they last toured North America. Hopefully the BA strike preventing them to return home when their tour is over next week doesn’t stop them from wanting to come back here in the future. Olly, Gale and Ed played to an enthusiastic crowd at the Mod Club, combining old tunes along with songs from...

Arkells @ Air Canada Centre
It’s been a great year for the Arkells. In just 7 months, Arkells have won a favourite new artist CASBY Award (short for Canadian Artists Selected by You) from Toronto radio station 102.1 The Edge, the Juno Award for New Group of the Year and for their May 15th show, were hand-picked to open for Them Crooked Vultures at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. You may be wondering why I...

Syncing with Google Sync
Along with the upcoming articles on backing up files, hard drives and photo editing workflow, I thought I’d share some other daily workflow tips on how I keep everything in sync. I’ve been using Gmail since 2005 and Google Apps in the last year and frankly, I didn’t need another email address and as I’ve written about it before, you really can’t beat Gmail’s...

Jonsi @ Sound Academy
Sigur Ros frontman Jon Por Birgisson (aka Jonsi) performed and impressive show at the Sound Academy last Friday night with the inclusion of a theatrical set design by 59 Productions. Shot for AUX. Having just returned back to Toronto a few weeks ago, and getting over a nasty case of laryngitis, I was eager to start shooting concerts again and am pleased to be working with AUX for that. AUX...

Cereal Killas - Do Ya Thang
Last weekend Korey Schaefer invited me out to shoot some behind the scenes photography for a hip hop video he and Jordan Bortolotti (hosts of AUX TV’s Something New) were making with the helps of Alon Isocianu from Reactiv Pictures. Here’s a little more of the back story, taken from AUX TV: A few months back Korey and Jordan entered Mike Turner’s (former guitarist of our lady peace)...

The Great Zacuto Shootout: DSLRs vs 35mm Film
At the end of January I went to Chicago to do some BTS photography for Zacuto’s Shootout, putting DSLRs against Kodak and Fuji film. It was a great experience and while I had to return to Toronto for work and didn’t get to see all the end results, part one of three airs today and you can finally see it here.

The Road So Far
Well, I’m no longer a resident of Canada and am in limbo. I was hoping to publish this before I actually left but there ended up being so many last minute things that I either a) forgot that needed to be done or b) took until the very last hours of the business week to finish up on. I left Toronto almost two weeks ago to meet Phil and start a month of traveling through the United States...

Apple Announces Aperture 3
[caption id=”attachment_1053” align=”alignleft” width=”815” caption=”Testing out Aperture 3 with some shots from the CN Tower”][/caption] When I bought my first mac back in 2007, Aperture had already been out for almost a year and a half. I had just started playing around with Lightroom on my PC before the switch since I have been a long time...

The Dark Side of Timelapses
Well, I’m in Chicago for another two days and while I don’t have any photos to share (yet), here’s a video that was made yesterday. Jon & Cristina thought it’d be a fun idea to spoof Phil re: the amount of timelapses that have begun showing up in his videos. Posted below is the results and you can read more about it on their site. Intervention from Cristina...

Toronto Meet Up/Farewell • Sunday February 7th
[caption id=”attachment_966” align=”alignleft” width=”259” caption=”click for detailed map”][/caption] Well it’s a month before I leave Canada, or Canadia as one sarcastic Brit likes to call it and he’ll actually be in town next weekend. It’s jam packed already trying to see some of the city as well as meet friends & family...
